Ladies – please be warned. This individual (whomever he is or whomever they are) is a classic scam. I was contacted on a dating website and then proceeded to spin quickly into the classic tell tale signs. I, however, never encountering such did not see the signs initially or even through time. This situation lasted for about 5-6 weeks. Started off by the classic story of both my parents are passed away, I have one sister who is not married but going to school at the age of 36 Nursing. My mom was from Bremen, Germany and father was from Baltimore, MD. Sends you 3 pictures (obviously these are stock photos or someone else they have scammed). He gives you the story that he is an Engineer that went to school at Baltimore University. He states he has an accent from all over. He is working on a large project for KCA Duetag from Aberdeen and that he should be back within a month’s time. He calls you babe and very Godly – goes to Church each Sunday, you are the only one, etc. All of that is untrue. Eventually in a few weeks when he has gained your trust so to speak he asks for money because the shipment has not gone through for the clearing of the project. Eventually, he stops calling the phone broke. The lines are horrible. Come on this is Scotland! Yes, I admit I had mini warning bells going off but you do not want to believe it. He asked me for money then insisted he had asked around from all of his friends. Wait isn’t he from the US? I told him I wasn’t in the position to make that kind of payment. He asked several times and said then he has a local individual that needs to make a payment to him – he has no access to his accounts, credit cards, etc and that he can’t work with the company because he has already been paid. He continues to push for help and to give you credit card bank info so his client could transfer money. All wire transfer services (i.e. Western Union, Moneygram, etc.) take credit / debit / cash. Thankfully, I came to my senses and figured out it was a scam. But I do know other women and men have lost tons of funds. While I did not lose money, I do believe the emotional wear on anyone is not needed. Be aware. Do not allow people on dating sites get your numbers, or other personal information unless you meet the person in person and build a trusted relationship. He was classic with not calling but having me call him, stating he did not have a FB page or messenger – caught him in a lie about “messenger.” Sad is these are con-artists to the “T,” as they will talk about very personal and relevant discussions. There are many stories out on the net about “catfishes” (see Katie Couric’s expose) or other. Even though this is an experience no one should ever encounter – it has truly made me aware of the continued “evil” in this world. You can also look up “oil rig engineer” scams – many similar stories.
