Please come back and add some more information on this reported scam ,has he asked you for money ? You can have a dual citizen ship with many countries today so that is not a reason to report someone as a scam ...if this is not a scam as asking for money or fake IP ,I will request removal on this thread. We do not want to have innocent people reported onto this site.So proof of scam I need from you in this case.

I was scammed by a person claiming to be Rick Carlos (pictures have been posted). Rick connected with me through a online dating site. We spoke through the site for a while and then began talking through e-mail and eventually by text and phone. He claimed to be in the export business and traveled to the Philippines on business. While there he experienced a number of hardships and asked for money (immigration laws change for exporting goods so he needed money to pay fees, then he had to stay longer and needed money for VISA, Hotel and food, then he became ill and needed medical attention, then he missed his flight and needed money to get another flight, then he had an accident and ended up in the hospital, then he was arrested and needed bail, then money for declaration and insurance for gold he was transporting, then he needed new air fare and it had to be business class due to a cast on his leg from the accident, more money for his visa, hotel and food, then he was robbed). I am ashamed to say I fell for every story. He used my faith and desire to help someone in need as a means to play on my compassion. This ordeal cost me several thousands of dollars. After months of contacting authorities, filing complaints with the FBI, sending e-mails to other dating sites to warn them and asking 'pinger' to take some action to stop this guy, and lastly, pursueing information through western union .... I have finally given up finding him. Through the IP address associated with the e-mails, I know the e-mails came from Nigeria. But I have been unable to find any other information. I came across this site and thought maybe if I post some pictures and information, other people would not be taken advantage by who ever is behind this scam. I hope this helps someone else!

I am sorry that you are scammed ,the man on the photos is not though the scammer him self ,scammers from Nigeria has stolen his photos to scam with .These scammers that operates out of Nigeria and Ghana are not easy to catch as they hide them selves really good behind stolen photos and names .

Please you do not need to be ashamed that you are scammed ,it is very easy to fall for these scammers as they are professional online scammers and do this to people 24-7 and when they get people on the hook as to start chatting and calling people ,it is there when it starts to get critical for victims as the scammer appears to be a real person and bonds getting stronger ...chatt scammers are the most dangerous ones you can deal with as a victim . I hope the scammer did not ruined your economy totally as that can be also something to deal with out over the scam in it self that can already be emotionally tough.

Your added information will for sure help other victims who stays in contact with this scammer to see the scam ,mails and IP is always helpful ..Yes the IP shows Nigeria and no doubt this is a scam in this case ..if you have more mails you want to post please post them here.

What I am not sure I understand is if I sent the money to the Philippines, how did he (they) get the money in Nigeria? Western Union says they don't track where the money is picked up. Is that true?

My thinking is accomplices in the scam ,scammers has accomplices all around the world now but the scenario the scammer has told you is a lie also ,so that the scammer have been residensing in the Philippines do not mean scammer are located there at all.To your question then :Even if you send money to the Philippines ,the money can be picked up where ever in the world as in this case the scammer picked up the money in Nigeria .All what is needed is the MTCN transfer number and a ID which the scammers esily can fix as they are going under fake IDs all the time .So yes this is true what WU has told you .

WU/MG Allows Scammers to Pick up Money in Any Country Regardless of What Country it is Sent To

Just because you send money to the U.K. or some state in the U.S. doesn't mean that it is necessarily picked up there as a scammer in Nigeria could pick up that money. WU/MG both allow a international money transfer to be picked up in any country not just the country the transfer was sent to.

I have tried to find the gentleman in the pictures to let him know his photos have been stolen. I can't find the pictures on the internet using google images. How do they steal the pictures if they aren't on the internet?

My guess it is a victim that has sent the photos to a scammer per mail ,the photos are not laid out on the internet simply or copy protected but that is not 100% safe either.Scammers are masters in computers and knows how to get around these protections .

There are some websites that use turn off the right klick which makes it harder for copy thieves...

So where did you met this scammer? what dating site?

Victims on ID theft are often not aware that their photos are stolen and abused by scammers ,sometimes it can be hard to identify the owners on the photos too as in this case . It is easier to when it comes to persons that are famous of course. But contacting the real person on the photos is not always appreciated as we do not know the status on the persons private life .

The thing is that no one cannot prevent the abusement of the photos that is used in the scams .Sometimes photos are used in one scam cycle it depends whether scammers decides to use them again or not ,everything is about money in the scammers world ,if the photos are selling they use them again .Sometimes scammers sells the photos further to other scam gangs we do not know.

This is also your process inside you that try to deal with this scam ,the feeling of guilt and grief in the same time hits on you .When I was once scammed I did the very same ,I looked all over the place where to find the real man on the photos and i wanted badly inform the owner that scammers are using is photos to scam with.

The questions marks are more than the answers ,why ,who ,what is keeping spinning in your head .It is very hard for people to take in for the brain .You are a victim of a crime !
The worst in this for scam victims is when you do not have a face who really did this to you . You cannot bring this scammer to court as you can often do with many other crimes today.

I processed for a while too and some answers I will never have answers on ,not even today after 4 years. We want to rationalize and find a reason for what we experience in life ,it is the process and we need to go through it somehow.

The dating site was christainmingle.com.

Thank you for the information. While I am somewhat financially recovered (although tecnically it wont be repaid for 5 years), I am struggling with getting past it emotionally. It is good to know that is sort of normal.

It's a shame that so many people are affected by this type of crime every year and that there is really no recourse for the victim.
