How can I mark a whole Windows folder with all subfolders as read-only?

Question:

How can I mark a whole Windows folder with all subfolders as read-only?

Answer:

You can either
  • select that folder in Windows Explorer
  • right-click on the folder
  • select 'properties'
  • check the 'Read Only' box

It will do it for all the subfolders unless you disabled applying inheritable attributes (this can be done or un-done with a click on 'Advanced')

You can also open a 'DOS box' (command line interpreter), go into the folder and use the attrib command as shown below:

cd \ReadonlyFolder
 attrib +r *.* /s
